Mr. Teruo Asada is currently Executive Advisor and Former Chairman at Marubeni Corporation, a major Japanese integrated trading and investment business conglomerate that trades internationally in a wide range of goods and services.
Mr. Asada is a seasoned executive at Marubeni, having joined the company immediately after graduating from Keio University in 1972. Early in his career, he was assigned to key posts in Los Angeles and London. He has since worked his way up the ranks, assuming the position of Corporate Vice President in 2002, Senior Vice President in 2004, Executive Vice President in 2006 and the top executive position of President and CEO in 2008. He became Chairman of the Board in 2013.
Mr. Asada has steered Marubeni through major challenges including the Asian financial crisis, the tsunami in Japan in 2011, and amidst these difficult times kept the balance sheet in the black with his astute leadership.
Under his Chairmanship, Marubeni’s investments around the world reached ¥260bn in 2011, largely in energy projects.
On October 2013, Asada was awarded The Order of Bernardo O’Higgins of the Republic of Chile for his role in the development of industry and trade between Chile and Japan.
